Every day, Strathcona County’s transit workers are on the front lines, helping residents get where they need to go.
You see them. They’re behind the wheel and at the depot delivering more than just rides. They help get people to school, work, medical appointments, and other important connections across our community.
But they’ve been working without a contract for a year and a half. That means no improvements to scheduling or safety, no access to a fair resolution process for serious issues, and no stability. It’s affecting their day-to-day work environment and their quality of life.
Transit workers are essential to keeping the public and our local economy moving. They’ve done their jobs. They’ve kept showing up with dedication. They deserve basic workplace rights and an employer that respects them and values their work.
Strathcona County is proud of their reputation as a top employer. But they’re not treating their workers to that standard. Being inclusive, respectful and equitable needs to be more than words. It’s time for the County to engage professionally and bargaining fairly.
Strathcona County should be a great place to work and live. Council has the power to help make this right.

"I get to know the community members I interact with on my daily route. I see how their day is impacted by the quality of their transit experience. It makes a real difference. I want to feel positive about work because it affects how I’m able to show up for residents."

Transit workers provided a necessary service in our community and deserve to have a contract and salary reflective of the rising cost of living and to be valued for their contributions.

Transit operators are up at the crack of dawn and work late into the night to get people where they need to be. There often isn’t time to use “the facilities” and there are no “coffee breaks”. If traffic is heavy or roads are bad they don’t get a shirt break to get up and stretch their legs. They deserve so much more than they get and it’s not “all about” the money.

They deserve benefits, a manageable work schedule and fairness. The mobility drivers provide transportation for our most vulnerable people. We should be supporting them, not wearing them out. Making sure they are recognized within a reasonable time frame not 3-5+ years to become full time operators, even though they work full time hours.

Transit workers are one of the most important links to identifying what a community represents. Kind of like the sales person of our great home!

Strathcona County employees deserve better pay and benefits.

Strathcona County transit operators have always been some of the lowest paid in the province. Rather disappointing to hear when they play such a vital role in our community…we can do better. We also can’t have a county council that boasts about budget surplus is at the beginning of the year only to underpaid their staff. Maybe time for a council change!

Workers should be respected and appreciated. This is shown through mutual respect, 18 months of stall tactics shows no respect.

It is with sadness and dismay that in the year of 2025, I find friends who work for the Strathcona County Bus Service are without a workable contract of any kind. It amazes me that Management cannot find it within itself to make sure that bus drivers, who are employees that see to the daily travel of Strathcona County residents, are exempt from a fair living package. You can be assured that our family will never use this bus service until an agreeable package is ratified

Instability leads to stress and illness. Our transit workers need to feel safe and respected in order to do their important work properly.
